The Laurel Spartan Band Program consists of the Senior High Concert Band, Middle School Concert Band, Laurel Spartan Marching Band, and the Spartan Jazz Ensemble. These groups are proud representatives of the Laurel Middle High School.
The Marching Band has approximately 80 members, including an auxiliary squad, the Spartanettes, which is made up of the Color Guard & Danceline. Band camp kicks off the season in late July for two weeks.
In addition to every Spartan Football game, the Band performs in various Parades, Community Events, and Band Festivals during the late summer and fall, scoring more than a few trophies through the years.
Every other year, a field trip is planned, and away they go! Previous destinations have been Boston, Virginia Beach, and Walt Disney World.
The High School Concert Band, Middle School Concert Band, & Jazz Band hold concerts yearly. The three primary performances are the Patriotic Concert in November, Winter Concert in December, and the Spring Concert in late April or early May. They also perform in additional concerts such as when the Senior High Concert Band performance was the guest band with the internationally known River City Brass Band or the Jazz Band performing as the opening act for the professional Pittsburgh based Balcony Big Band. The Senior High Concert Band also has their annual artist-in-residence guest artist perform on the Spring concert. Laurel sends representatives to and maintains quite a presence each year at the All-Star Band, Honor’s Band, District Band, Region Band, All-State Band and recently All-East Band just to name a few.
